Cracking/spalling

One of the most common paint problems is cracking/peeling. Wall peeling is caused by large moisture content, material and temperature shrinkage because of the bubble peeling on the wall.

Why does paint crack and peel?

·In case of poor surface treatment, paint is applied to bare wood without primer, or to a surface where there is a previous sign of paint cracking or peeling.

·Use inferior paint because it may not have sufficient adhesion and / or flexibility.

·The painting was too thin during construction. The paint becomes brittle over time and cannot expand and shrink with changes in temperature and humidity.

·The paint powder wasn't brushed well before painting, resulting in paint cracking.

·The wall surface wasn'tcleaned, resulting in different driness and wetness, and the uneven thermal expansion and contraction of paint leads to cracks.

·The proportion of latex paint deson't match in the process of water.

·The second layer of paint base material is brushed without dryness, resulting in paint shedding and cracking.

"·The wall with sunny exposure

has been affected by high temperature, and the cracking is caused by driness. There are many other situations that may also cause cracks in the walls of your house."

How to repair cracked or peeled paint

If the crack doesn't extend to the substrate: remove the peeled paint with a scraper and a wire brush, polish the area with coarse sandpaper to repair the gap with the wall glue, and finally use a lacquer putty for levelling and painting.

If the cracking extends to the substrate: remove the paint where the cracking occurs. The removal methods may include scraping, polishing, sandblasting, grid cloth, etc. Once most of the paint is removed and the surface is smooth and uniform, apply the primer and then repaint with high-quality latex paint.

How to prevent paint cracking or peeling off

Prepare the surface before painting: paint only on surfaces that have been properly polished, cleaned and primed. Do not paint on the broken paint.

Let the paint dry thoroughly before adding another coating.
