Hue Basis

The hue refers to the nature of colors such as red, blue, and yellow. For example, it looks like blue, blue-green, and blue. It says to remove the elements of brightness ( luminance ) and purity ( vividness ) to distinguish colors by hue. The hue will also be different in classification according to various methods, but the main hues are red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple. These are the most representative hues on the continuously changing spectrum from red to purple.

Color Cycle

The change of hue is arranged in order and expressed by circle, which is called "hue ring". In theory, it should be a continuously changing color without obvious boundaries. In general, after the annular colors are equally divided, they are represented by a stage-like colorimetric scale. In order to correctly convey the color, the color expression system is reasonably standardized, such as similar color, contrast color, adjacent color, and complementary color...

Analogous Colors

In some hues, the colors with an interval angle of 30°-45° are common and change, which are called "analogous colors". The difference between standard hue and hue is 2-3 if the hue ring is between 20 hue and 24 hue. The combination of colors with close color difference can make people feel the commonality and change. The proportion of similar colors can make people have the balance of color difference and give people a sense of peace of mind.

Adjacent Hues

Some colors whose angles are about 15 °, we call them "adjacent hues". Between the color ring of 20 hue and 24 hue, they are the adjacent hues  as described in the text. Compared with "similar hues", though the color is more consistent, it can also be said to lack change. Generally speaking, "the same color system" refers to the adjacent hues and similar hues.

Hue of Complementary Colors

The colors at the diagonal position of the hue ring, that is, the hues at an angle of 180° are called "Hue of Complementary Colors". Because they are the very strong combination of hues, there will be an addition effect when they are contrasting each other. The combination of complementary colors can emphasize their properties according to the colors that may be serious.
